Which industry should I choose?
Why does it matter if I practice in California?
ALL courses comply with OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.1030.
Healthcare:
Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists, Medical Assistants, and other healthcare workers should choose the "Healthcare" option. This course includes such topics as "Safe Injection Practices," "Hospital Associated Infections," and other topics specifically encountered in a healthcare setting.
Body Art:
Tattoo Artists, Body Art Professionals, Body Piercing Artists, Permanent Cosmetics Artists, and others involved in body art should choose the "Body Art" option. This course is filmed in a body art shop and includes topics specifically targeted to body artists, such as "Equipment Sterilization" and "Possible Medical Issues with Body Art."
General Workplace:
If you are not a body artist and do not work in the healthcare industry, choose "General Workplace." This course includes training for any other occupation that may come into contact with bloodborne pathogens in the workplace, such as in General Construction, Restaurants, Transportation, Factories, Teachers, or Daycare Providers.
Our California Bloodborne Pathogens course includes everything from our normal Body Art course, but it also includes additional topics, making it an hour longer. California has a minimum course length requirement as well as specific requirements for what must be included in the training.
One specific requirement is teaching about Safe Body Art Act AB300 / AB1168. We are in the process of obtaining county-by-county approval throughout the state of California for this course. If you are licensed in California to perform body art or think you may need to perform body art in California in the future, you should choose "Yes."
